113g packet liquorice Catherine
wheels
25cm round cake board
wooden kebab skewer
fine paint brush
Method:
Cut the cake in
half horizontally and fill with some butter icing.
Cover the outside with the remaining butter icing.
Use
350g/12oz of sugar-paste icing to coat
the top and inside of the cake. Use the
trimmings to roll an oblong for the flag. Cut
the skewer to 12.5cm/5in and fold one end of the
flag around it, securing with water. Paint on
the pattern with black food coloring. Color a
ball of icing black, and stick on I top of the
skewer. Make a few folds and leave to dry .
Color the
remaining sugar-paste icing blue, yellow, green,
orange, red and a very small amount purple. Shape
each car in two pieces, attaching in the centre with
royal icing where the seat joins the body of the
car. Add decorations and headlights and attach dolly
mixture wheels with royal icing. Place a teddy bear
in each car and leave to set.
Unwind the
Catherine wheels and remove the centre sweets. Fix
them to the top of the cake with royal icing. Secure
one strip round the bottom. Cut some of the
liquorices into small strips and attach round the
middle of the outside of the cake with royal icing.
Arrange small liquorices sweets around the bottom of
the cake, Position the cars on top of the cake on
the tracks and attach the flag to the outside with
royal icing.
