Dessert Recipes - Viennese Crescent Ring Recipe

Ingredients   

  • 1 cup finely ground almonds

  • 1/3 cup powdered sugar

  • 2 Tbs margarine or butter, softened

  • 1 tsp. almond extract

  • 1 egg yolk (reserve egg white for topping)

  • 2 8-oz cans Pillsbury Refrigerated Crescent Dinner Quick Rolls

Topping:

  • 1/3 cup apricot preserves

  • 1/3 cup pineapple preserves Reserved egg white

  • 1/4 cup sliced un-blanched almonds

  • 1 Tbs sugar

Makes 8 servings


Method:

  1. Heat oven to 350°F. In medium bowl, combine ground almonds, powdered sugar, margarine, almond extract and egg yolk; blend well. (Mixture will be stiff.) Set aside.

  2. Separate one can of dough into 4 rectangles. Place in un-greased 12-inch pizza pan; press over bottom, sealing perforations. Separate second can of dough into 8 triangles.

  3. Spread 1 rounded Tbs of almond filling over each triangle. Roll up; start at shortest side of triangle and roll to opposite point.

  4. Arrange filled crescents, pointed side-down, evenly around edge of dough-lined pan.

  5. In small bowl, combine preserves. Spoon evenly over center of dough spreading just to filled rolls. Beat egg white until frothy; brush over tops of filled crescents.

  6. Sprinkle with sliced almonds; sprinkle sugar evenly over almonds.

  7. Bake at 350°F for 25 to 30 minutes or until golden brown. Cut into wedges to serve. Serve warm.
