Dessert Recipes - Sunland Vineyard Loaf Recipe

Ingredients   

  • 1 cup Sun-Maid Seedless Raisins

  • 1/3 cup sherry

  • 1 13 3/4-oz package hot roll mix

  • 1/4 cup warm water

  • 1/2 cup hot milk

  • 2 Tbs butter

  • 1 Tbs sugar

  • 1 egg, beaten

  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts 4 bay leaves (optional) Melted butter


Method:

  1. Chop raisins coarsely; add sherry. Let stand an hour or more.

  2. Dissolve yeast from mix in warm water. Combine milk, butter and sugar; when lukewarm, add yeast and egg.

  3. Beat in flour mixture from package. Mix in walnuts and drained raisins. Cover, and let rise in warm place until doubled, 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 hours. Punch down.

  4. Divide into 8 portions. Shape each into a slender roll 8 inches long. Twist 2 together for each loaf; fit into greased pans, 5 1/2 x 3 inches, with a bay leaf in bottom of pan.

  5. Brush with melted butter. Let rise until doubled, 30 to 40 minutes.

  6. Bake on low shelf at 375°F 30 to 35 minutes. Turn out and cool.
