Dessert Recipes - Nutty Meringue Pie Shell Recipe

Ingredients                 

  • 3 egg whites (at room temperature)

  • 1/4 tsp cream of tartar

  • 1/8 tsp salt

  • 3/4 cup sugar

  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1/4 cup Planters Pecan Pieces, Planters Walnuts, Planters Blanched Almonds, or  Planters Salted Peanuts, coarsely chopped


Method:

  1. Combine egg whites, cream of tartar and salt in small bowl of electric mixer. Beat on high speed until soft peaks form.

  2. Gradually add sugar, beating until stiff peaks form. Mix in vanilla. Spread meringue evenly over bottom and sides of a greased and floured 9-inch pie plate.

  3. Sprinkle Planters Nuts over meringue in bottom of shell.

  4. Bake at 300°F for 40, to 45 minutes, or until lightly browned. Cool. Fill as desired.
