Dessert Recipes - Mystery Torte Recipe

Ingredients                

  • 10 Premium Saltine Crackers, coarsely rolled (about 2/3 cup crumbs)

  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans Chocolate-Cream Topping (optional-below)

  • 1/2 tsp baking powder

  • 3 egg whites (at room temperature)

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Make 4-6 servings


Method:

  1. Combine cracker crumbs and pecans. Set aside. Add baking powder to egg whites. Beat until soft peaks form.

  2. Gradually add sugar and vanilla. Continue beating until egg whites are very stiff and glossy, but not dry. Fold in cracker mixture. Turn into 1 9-inch un-greased pie plate.

  3. Bake in a preheated oven (300°F) 50 minutes. Chill several hours.

Chocolate-Cream Topping: For an excellent topping, combine 1/2 cup heavy cream with 3 Tbs. confectioners' sugar and 3 tsp instant cocoa mix. Whip until stiff. Spoon over just before serving.
