Dessert Recipes - Brownies Recipe

Ingredients 

  • 2 1-ounce squares Baker's Unsweetened Chocolate

  • 1/3 cup soft butter or other shortening

  • 2/3 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 tsp Calumet Baking Powder

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 2 eggs

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1 tsp vanilla

  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts

Makes about 20 brownies


Method:

  1. Melt chocolate with butter over low heat. Mix flour with baking  powder and salt. Beat eggs well; then gradually beat in sugar.  

  2. Blend in chocolate mixture and vanilla. Add flour mixture and mix well. Stir in nuts. Spread in greased 8-inch square pan.

  3. Bake at 350°F for 25 minutes (for moist, chewy brownies); or about 30 minutes, or until cake tester inserted in center comes out clean (for cake-like brownies).

  4. Cool in pan; then cut into squares.

Note: Recipe may be doubled; bake in greased 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan at 350°F for 25 or 30 minutes, as directed.
