Dessert Recipes - Nutty Crescents Recipe

Ingredients              

  • 1 1/4 cups powdered sugar

  • 1 cup finely chopped almonds

  • 2 cups flour

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened

  • 2 teaspoons cold water

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

  • 1/2 to 3/4 cup powdered sugar


Method:

  1. Instructions for jar: Combine powdered sugar, almonds and flour. Spoon mixture into 1 liter jar.

  2. For baking: Preheat oven to 350 (176C). Empty contents of jar into large mixing bowl.

  3. Add butter, water and vanilla to dry ingredients and mix well. Dough will be crumbly at first but will hold its shape as you cut butter in.

  4. Take small pieces of dough and shape into crescents. (To make crescent shapes, roll pieces of dough into 3-inch (8 cm) lengths, place on sprayed baking sheet and shape into half moon, fattening top slightly.

  5. Bake for 12 to 14 minutes or until cookies are light brown around edges.

  6. While still warm, coat with powdered sugar. (An easy way to do this is to put cookies in re-sealable plastic bag with about 1/2 cup (120 ml) powdered sugar, seal bag and gently shake to coat.)
