Toy Car Cake
Ingredients

20cm round sponge
cake
-
butter icing
-
apricot jam,
warmed and served
-
450 marzipan
-
500g sugar-paste
icing
-
yellow, red and
black food coloring
-
30ml royal icing
-
red and green
sweets
-
25cm round cake
board
-
wooden cocktail
stick
-
cutters, 4cm and
2.5cm
-
small greaseproof
paper piping bag

No 1 writing
nozzle

2 candles and
holders
Method:
-
Split and fill
the cake with the butter icing. Cut in half and
sandwich the halves together. Stand upright and
slice off pieces to create the windscreen and
bonnet. Place on the cake board and brush with
apricot jam.

Cut a strip
of marzipan to cover the top of the cake to
level the joins. Then cover the cake all over
with marzipan. Tint 450g of the sugar-paste icing yellow and use to cover the
cake. Leave to dry overnight.

Mark the outlines
of the doors and windows on to the car with a
cocktail stick.

Tint the
remaining sugar-paste icing red. Cut out four wheels
with the larger cutter. Stick in place with water.
Mark the hubs in the centre of each wheel with the
smaller cutter.

Tint the royal
icing black and pipe over the outline marks of the
doors and windows. Stick on sweets for headlights
with royal icing. Press the candles into sweets and
stick to the board with royal icing.
