Method:
Preheat the oven
to 200'C/400"F/Gas 6. Grease a baking sheet. Sift
together the flours, bicarbonate of soda and salt.
Make a central well and add the butter or margarine
and buttermilk. Working from the centre, stir to
combine the ingredients until a soft dough is formed.
With floured
hands, gather the dough into a ball. Knead for 3
minutes. Shape the dough into a large round.
Place on the
baking sheet. Cut a cross in the top with a sharp
knife and dust with the flour. Bake until brown,
about 40-50 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to cool.
